Meet David Chipping, our methodical British seasonal hot air balloon pilot with a rich aviation background. David’s fascination with flight began in his youth, inspired by his father’s love for aviation. Unable to pursue a career in the Air Force due to his height, David’s passion for flying took flight when his father gifted him a balloon on his eighteenth birthday.

From David’s passion for being in the sky, he has 2900 flight hours and 38 years of experience in the ballooning industry. Throughout his experience, David takes command with professionalism and warmth, ensuring passengers feel at ease during flights. He draws inspiration from real-life heroes like David Niven and cherishes the sense of accomplishment from his first solo flight. 

David’s adventures span continents, from witnessing wildlife in East Africa to navigating the Swiss Alps with seasoned pilots. Outside of flying, he enjoys various outdoor sports, fine wine, and cultural pursuits like opera.

Reflecting on his experiences, David stresses the importance of humility, safety, and continuous learning in ballooning. He believes in creating a sustainable career path for aspiring pilots and emphasizes the significance of responsible decision-making in aviation.
